A decision by the Oxford City Council to abolish all references to Christmas in the name of being more "inclusive" is the next step in erasing history and Christian identity, says a Vatican official. Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, responded in this way to the approved proposal of the council-run charity Oxford Inspires to refer to celebratory events in the British city as the "Winter Light Festival." Authorities say they want the celebrations to be more "inclusive."
The City council of Oxford “moves to delete references to Christmas”. This is indeed absurd and sad. The reason why we celebrate Christmas is because it is the commemoration of the birth of Christ. Removing Christ from Christmas will render Christmas meaningless. It is also sad how secularism could eliminate and deny history for the sake of “inclusivity”. Let us pray and work hard that the sinister influence of militant secularism will not get hold in our culture, especially in our country the Philippines.
