ERECTION OF A PERSONAL TRIDENTINE PARISH IN THE DIOCESE OF CUBAO

Here is a message from D.P. Maturan:

The Bishop of the Diocese of Cubao, his excellency Bishop Honesto F.Ongtioco, D.D., has permitted the erection of a personal parish for those who are attached to the Extra Ordinary Form of the Latin Rite. The church building will be dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and will under the auspices of Fr. Michell Joe Zerrudo and the Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph to consolidate efforts aong various groups advocating the return of the form of Mass popularly known as the Tridentine Mass. The parish will also be available for other Sacraments to be administered according to the liturgical books of 1962 or prior to 1970. It will also be a venue of training for priests who would like to learn the ancient usage of the Roman Rite and others who would like to learn the rubrics of serving at the traditional rites, including schola and choir training. The Diocese is now looking for a venue for the said personal parish and funds are solicited in order
to commence such as august aposolate. Funds may be channeled through Fr. Michell Joe B. Zerrudo, Parish of Our Lord of Divine Mercy, Diocese of Cubao, Maamo cor. Madasalins Sts., Sikatuna, Quezon City, Philippines or may call his parish at 029213337. We therefore appeal to traditonal Catholic communities to help us in such endeavor.

Yes, its a good news indeed. I like the spirituality of Fr. Jojo Zerrudo. He delivers well preapred homilies. I always learn something new every time I hear him deliver his homilies. He celebrates the Tridentine Mass almost daily since the summorum pontificum. Prior to that he willingly celebrated it for the Tridentine Community in Manila. The Bishop of Cubao has been tolerant of the Traditional Roman Catholics. The SSPX Chapel is just a few meters away from his Cathedral Church.

The Bishop of Cubao is a progressive when it comes to these things like giving space to the traditional. Fr Zerrudo preaches like an Anglican Catholic priest, scriptural, patristic, pastoral and literate. I have never heard a Filipino Catholic priest preach in this way. Too bad I don't have much of a chance to assist at his Masses.

I followed it up with Mr. Dennis Maturan, the president of the Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph. There was a verbal agreement with the Bishop and as soon as the funds were enough to buy a property for the Church, the bishop will issue the decree. For the meantime the Latin Mass community is under the direction of Fr. Michell Zerrudo, the parish priest of the Parish of Jesus of Divine Mercy in Sikatuna, Cubao, Quezon City Philippines. It is a novus ordo parish but it Offers Traditional Latin Mass everyday. On weekdays it is low mass and on Sunday there is one Missa Cantata at 2:00 pm if you wish you may visit the blog of Fr. Zerrudo the name of the blog is SENSE OF THE SACRED you can find it on my links on the sidebar.

Mr. Maturan,

I came across your blog asking about the status of Fr. Odon. Below is an excerpt of a case decided by the Supreme Court (G.R. No. 101566 where it cites the following:

Quote:"Unfortunately, the Caryana Movement was denied canonical recognition and its spiritual director, Fr. Odon was himself expelled from the Benedictine Order and stripped of his priestly functions by the Archbishop of Manila, Jaime Cardinal Sin." End of quote. The case further mentioned that Caryana is a cult.
