Mass in Honor of the Nativity of Our Lady

Students of the Aemelianum College Inc., in Sorsogon City served as the Choir.

The Feast of our Lady's Nativity fall on a Monday. It is advantageous for us in the sense that Monday is a school day so the students were present. Some of them served as the choir. Although they still could not master the Missa de Angelis. Despite of a whole week of practicing they still falter in some portions of the Mass. But somehow they can pick up the pieces. We hope to see them again this Sunday September 14 for the Mass to honor the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and very important indeed because this is the first anniversary of the Summorum Pontificum. For the members of the Latin Mass community it was an act of devotion because it is a working day and we have to take leave from our jobs in order to be present for the Mass. I have to drive almost 90 kilometers to Sorsogon City. I am not from Sorsogon City, I came from Albay a neighboring Province of Sorsogon. To me I find driving from my home city to Sorsogon a bit dangerous because of the extreme curves and the narrow highways which often are clogged with slow moving vehicles. But the Sacrifice is worth it. This is the only regular weekly Latin Mass in the whole Bicol Region. It is sad to note that despite of Bicol's reputation as the most devout Catholic region in the Philippines, the Traditional Latin Mass has never taken a strong foothold. The Somascans of Sorsogon are the only ones who have it. The superior of the House was generous enough to grant permission to hold the Latin Mass every Sunday on their Chapel. We also thank Most Reverend Arturo Bastes, SVD, D.D. the Bishop of Sorsogon for allowing us to have this mass and he even went beyond toleration by extending his Apostolic Blessing for this TLM apostolate in Aemelianum College.

Hello Fr. Abe,

Do you think Bishop Bastes could be persuaded to celebrate a TLM (even a Pontifical Low Mass) one day?

yes I think so. If someone will ask or invite him too. There are also times when high prelates can be invited to be homilist but someone could say the mass.

Dear Richard,

Sorry for failing to answer immediately. Although I am visiting this blog almost everyday but this time I failed to notice in advance the comment section.

I think it is possible and actually I am planning to pay Bishop Bastes a visit one of these days. We are also planning of inviting him to be the celebrant but we are still in our infancy period. Our altar servers are still lacking the finesse required and our choir is still struggling. Once we become established we will do so. Most probably we can do that on February 28 the anniversary of our First TLM.

Please pray for our TLM apostolate. This Sunday we will celebrate the Triumph of the Cross.
