There is a very interesting article I read on yahoo groups about the ban on Confessions by telephone. Pope Shenouda III of the See of Alexandria has banned the confessions by telephone as this may be tapped by agents of state. Like Roman Catholics , the Coptic Church ensures the secrecy of the confessional. Hence it is perceived that this move is a way to ensure the secrecy and integrity of confessions. Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria has also forbidden monks from using cell phones, except for the superiors of the monasteries. He said that monks are set apart from the world. the cell phone will bring them to the world hence the use of cell phones for monks is inconsistent with their callings. More of this article can be read at Yahoo News.
