Pilate, Presenting Jesus in front of the Jews. Pilate said "ecce homo". The Jews replied " Crucify him! crucify him!"
This is one of the most beloved images of Christ I have seen. This is part of the tableau for the Lenten Celebration in our town. The owner of this tableau lives right across the street where I live. So I ask permission to have the photo taken. Take note of the workmanship of this piece of art. The parts of the bodies and facial features are clearly drawn, including the fingers. It has Spanish features, an evidence of the Spanish influence in Philippine Catholicism.
The image of Mater Dolorosa. The heart of the Sorrowful Mother pierced with a lance.
"O, Mother, in this hour of desolation, the sword prophesied by Simeon has pierced your heart. Let me join you in this doleful night of pain. I am filled with remorse for the many sins I have committed. It was because of my sinfulness that Our Lord suffered this pain. But my soul shall hope in the Lord. My soul why are you sad? Hope in the Lord."

Doc,
GREETING OF PEACE AND GRACE IN THIS EASTER TRIDUUM.
Congratulations for your very beautiful reflections, religious arts presentations and magnificent churches presented here in this blog. It is as if I am the Splendor of the Church has changed title yet the reflections are better and wiser. I love it so. You are enriching our faith with this blog and showing us the Beauty and Grandeur of the life of the Church especially in the Visita Iglesia and in the Holy Week posts. Thank you so much for sharing to us these treasures of the Church that otherwise is visible only to the people of your area.
I was not able to take that much pictures these days because you know as priest, I am usually in the confessinary and on the Altar area leading the worship. It is not proper for me to take photos during the Mass itself.
Once again God bless you and your family and your students.
Dear Fr. Abe,
Thank you for the generous comment. I thought that when I created this blog I would be posting topics about Liturgy, particularly the Extraordinary Form to which I am personally attached. But eventually I realized that there are plenty of good things I can write and post as well. I notice that in many instances Religious Art is also important, not only because they express the deeper feelings of Humans, but it also has a didactic purpose. It teaches us about faith. Our sense of Aesthetics is used as a vehicle for cultivating our faith.
Besides I have been too busy to write serious topics and to devote to deeper thinking. We have our high school reunion so I have to divide my time, especially too that I didn't want to miss the Triduum Liturgies, but at the same time I do not want to disappointment my fellow classmates. But sooner I will post some serious topics. Actually I have been preparing a sequel to that post I have written about the Resurrection. I have prepared sources/readings from the Early Church Fathers such as Justin Martyr, Origen and Tertulian, but I suppose I have to give more time for that.
Yes there are several baroque chuches in Bicol. Many art practitioners said that our Baroque churches are under rated. And some of our authorities are ignorant of the value of this art. The successive rennovations have destroyed some beautiful masterpieces.
