The ordinations of the Priests for the Society of St. Pius X proceeded as scheduled in Winona, Minnesota, USA on June 19, 2009 feast of the Sacred Heart. There have been no reaction from the ordinary of the Diocese as of the moment. This is in contrast to some German Bishops who are so opposed and who threatens to impose on the SSPX Bishop and ordinands the penalty of excommunications. The Superior General of the SSPX has already mentioned the imperfect situation of the society and we sincerely hope that the German Bishops should be as compassionate as Pope Benedict in trying to bring this rift to a close. Threats of excommunications will not help. But understanding and self re-eximations would be in place. Perhaps the Bishops in Germany should ask themselves why there is a decline in vocations.

The Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei (PCED) is the only entity within the Catholic Church which has jurisdiction in dealing with the SSPX. Diocesan bishops and others are without authority to deal with SSPX. Based on the Holy Father's actions (lifting the excommunications of the four SSPX bishops), it would appear that all matters concerning the SSPX are exclusively "reserved" to the competent Roman dycastery i.e. PCED. Is there a stable group in Tabaco requesting the old rite of Mass be celebrated?
I have almost no contact with anyone in Tabaco who would wish to have a tridentine mass. I have tried writing our pastor but there was no reply. But if someone would initiate I think others will follow suit. I know there are people out there, only that there is no one to gather them. Tabaco is big parish.
Hello Dr. Herbert,
I just suspect that in general or as a whole Filipinos are not asking for the old rite of Mass be celebrated.
Most likely it is because of non-exposure that the people just don't know of the rite. I mean we can ask ourselves how we discovered the old rite.
I would also say that the old rite perhaps is sought more by Europeans. Let's look at where FSSP is active. Filipino FSSPs would be only good.
The diocesan priests (and even some priests of Orders) in majority are not inclined or feel drawn to celebrate in the old rite.
(Albeit we read plenty about it on-line.)
Are you residing in Tabaco? Yes I think not many Filipinos are aware about the Old Rite. Hence they will not request for it. Even the clergy today here in Albay are not that inclined. Kaya medyo makamundo. Every Sunday I have to endure the abuses and lack of respect shown for the Rite of Mass. I have not heard or talk to any one here in Tabaco who is interested in the Old Rite. But before when I attended a Mass at the Our Lady of Victories in Manila, I saw a kababayan, a dentist with his wife who is from tabaco who happened to visit Manila. they attended in one of the Low Mass.
Hello Dr. Herbert,
I believe that there is rich spirituality to be had in both rites of Masses. Dare I say in substantial part the tridentine rite resembles the Novus Ordo, albeit in the low Mass.
It is promising though that the old rite is gradually coming in to the fore especially among young people.
It is starting to appear that both rites and indeed all rites are necessary.
